Who hasn't experienced that pulling sensation so characteristic of some commercial soaps? Natural organic soaps, on the other hand, are genuine skin care products. The main advantage of a natural soap is that it does not use allergenic ingredients that could be harmful to health, such as parabens, palm oil and other synthetic or chemical products. Organic natural soap contains no colourings, perfumes or synthetic products, so it can be used to care for even the most sensitive skin. In general, these types of soap all have softening and moisturising properties, and you'll notice a difference as soon as you use them for the first time.
Often, it's also the artisanal soap-making process that guarantees the exceptional quality of organic soaps. Soap has been made by hand for centuries. Soap is created by mixing oils or fats with soda. The oils and other ingredients give each soap its special character: rich oils (olive, avocado, apricot, hemp, argan, etc.), clays, plants, essential oils (for fragrance and their properties), honey, milk, etc. All are natural, of plant (oils, plants, seeds), animal (beeswax, milk) or mineral (clays) origin. No synthetic products, preservatives or foaming agents are used in natural organic soaps. The reaction that occurs once everything has been mixed is called saponification, and the result is a combination of soap and glycerine.
The traditional way of producing soap was, and still is at least for organic soaps, called the cold saponification method. Once the soap mixture has been prepared, it is poured into moulds and left for about a day for the saponification process to take place. The soap bar is then cut and left to cure (dry) for between 4 and 6 weeks, before it can be used or prepared for sale.
The method is as natural as the soap itself, and the handmade process produces a surgras of around 7%. This means that an excess of oil has not been transformed and remains in the natural soap. It is this excess oil that provides effective nourishment for the skin.
